July 2018:

  • Wednesday, July 25—7:00 pm central time: Madeira Unveiled: a deep dive into the particulars of the growing region, styles, and current state of the industry—presented by Mark Rashap, CWE. This one-hur session will explore the dynamic between the 1,000 growers and 8 producers of Madeira, the grapes and where they are grown, the “Latada” system of vine training, methods of production, styles and age indication, and the future of Madeira. Mark Rashap, CWE, serves as Director of Wine Education at the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas and hosts the radio show and podcast Another Bottle Down.  Previously, Mark studied Wine Management in Buenos Aires, made wine in Washington State, trained retail staff as a corporate educator, and worked as Marketing Coordinator for the Society of Wine Educators. Click here for details, login info, instructions.

A webinar about some of the most fascinating, historical, and complex spirit amari on the face of the earth—focusing on Italy. And here’s a twist: it’s a taste-along! Stay tuned for a grocery list of spirits that we’ll taste…and join us for a sweet Wednesday evening dedicated to bitters.

If so, climb aboard – Lisa Boissier, CWE  is driving! As we pull into each location, we’ll learn all about the grapes, the traditions, and the wines of each area. Who can resist?

 

November 2018:

  • Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 am: “Let the Vine do its Job!” — An Introduction to Biodynamic Wine-Making presented by Lucia Volk, CWE: 
    Confused or amused by cow manure buried in horns at equinox and stinging nettle tea preparations sprayed in vineyards?  Curious how biodynamic ideas took hold among some of the most famous winegrowers in the world, such as the DRC?  Lucia Volk, CWE, will present the origins, main thinkers, and some current practitioners of this alternative, yet fast-growing wine universe, with hopes to clarify what makes a bottle of biodynamic wine different from conventional, organic or sustainable ones.
