A vigorous and ancient grape, Gamay makes it’s first appearance in history in the middle 1300’s following the Black Death. Initially cultivated in Burgundy, it was banished to the granite gravels of Beaujolais by Phillip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy in 1395 declaring it “disloyal…and of very great and horrible harshness.” But instead of withering into obscurity, this hearty grape variety thrived in the rocky vineyards and has been at the center of several controversies over the centuries. Join us for a one hour adventure through the history of Beaujolais and it’s signature variety Gamay, presented by Sam Schmitt, CS, CSS, CWE. Click here for details, login info, instructions.
