CSE, CWE: If you are considering stepping up to the Certified Wine Educator Credential, this session is for you! We’ll discuss the exam itself (multiple choice, essay, and tasting portions) as well as the resources available to students and some tips for studying and skills practice. You’ll also have a chance to ask any questions that have been weighing on your mind. If you are considering whether the CWE is your next step (or just want to know more about the process), this one-hour session is for you!

  • Saturday, February 8- 10:00 am central time: Members-only Webinar: Let’s Get Visual—PowerPoint Presentations that Pop!We’ve all suffered through boring wine classes, more often than not punctuated by dull, text-laden power point slides. There are even support groups based around a chorus of students screaming “I hate PowerPoint,“ or chants of “Bullet Points Kill!” And while it is true that bad PowerPoint can be really, really, bad…PowerPoint is just a tool! With the application a few key principles of presentation design and just a touch of graphic wizardry, PowerPoint can be an ultra-effective method of visual engagement. Join us for the 90-minute session and learn how to create PowerPoint Presentations that Pop!

Nickles, CSE, CWE.  Wine is fun, delicious, and fascinating…and yet we all struggle to stay motivated and engaged with our studies. This is particularly true of folks studying for wine theory exams, who often fall prey to the “rote memorization” trap and end up spending countless hours of study, while not really learning anything useful (unless your ultimate goal is to shine at Wine Trivia Night). Join us for this members-only, one-hour webinar and learn to study from the “big picture” right down to the “tiny details” in a way that engenders meaning, context, and true understanding to your studies.

April 2020: 

  • Saturday, April 11 – 10:00 am central time: Paso Robles AVA—Rebels, Rocks and Rhone Rangers, presented by Lucia Volk, PhD, CWE. Nestled inside the larger San Louis Obispo AVA within California’s Central Coast AVA, Paso Robles today boasts about 40,000 vineyard acres and over 200 wineries.  From relatively modest beginnings in 1983, Paso Robles growers and winemakers have been producing wines that can compete with Napa Cabs and Zins, in addition to their unique Rhone blends. Now divided into 11 sub-AVAs, Paso Robles has a wine for every tasting profile. Lucia Volk, PhD and CWE, will take you on a tour through this exciting wine-making region.
